1/48 TSR 2 Part 2a

The 1/48 Airfix TSR2 in a fictional raspberry ripple scheme using decals from the Xtradecal sheet. It also has additional poarts from an Italeri Tornado Gr.1 kit. The model has also got cameras (ones that look like Boz??? pods) LGB's and 2 nukes in the bomb bay as this is a fictional weapons test aircraft.

1/48 AC-130U Part 1

The AC-130 has to be one of, if not my favourite aircraft. It may not be beautiful and it may not be fast but packs one hell of a punch.

The AC-130 gunship is a heavily armed ground attack aircraft based on the C-130 transport aircraft. The first AC-130's where used in Vietnam and are still in use today, all be it heavily upgraded with sophisticated sensors and armament. The sole user of the AC-130 is the USAF and they currently use the AC-130H Spectre and the AC-130U Spooky. AC-130's from USAF Special Operations squadrons have been deployed in virtually every conflict the U.S has been involved in, officially and unofficially, since the Vietnam war.

The model is the now becoming rare, Italeri 1/48 AC-130U which is the latest variant. The first thing that hits you when you open the box is the size of the model; its huge! The main fuselage comes in two sections and is longer than the box itself which is not small, the finished model measures 621mm long.

Having wanted this model since I was a child, I decided to lay out all the parts on my table to see what you actually get for your money - in this case it was a bargain at £24 from a trader at a show!

As you can see there are a lot of parts! Whilst Italeri give you all the external parts necessary to make an early U variant, there seems to be a lack of internal parts. There are no parts to represent the guns and the battle management stations are non-existent. The only thing you do get is the standard C-130 cargo hold and a fairly reasonable cockpit area. Unfortunately the cockpit is missing the navigators station although it does have the chairs. The main instrument console is also not correct but more of that later.

So after the initial inspection, the construction begins..........

1/48 AC-47Spooky Part 1

Last week I bought a few sets of Prop blur from www.propblur.com. After seeing a few photos of models in flight with prop blur used to simulate the spinning propellers. I had to give it a go for myself, so I bought there deal of 20 sets (there a 2 "blurs" per set). They arrived yesterday and I had the itch to use them. I looked through my kit stash and realised I don't have very many prop models, mostly jets. What to do? Then it jumped of the shelf at me I had an idea! So here it is:

I liked the box art so much I decided that that was how I wanted my AC-47 to look. Inspired by the box art and spurred on by the pro blur on my bench I got to work..............

This aircraft needs no introduction, in my eyes this is one of the best looking piston engine aircraft ever made. I'm sure most of you will completely disagree but there is something about its brutish lines and purposeful poise that gives it a different kind of beauty that a Spitfire or a Mustang just has not got. So onto the kit itself. This was the fist Tamiya kit I have the pleasure of building and I was not disappointed. The fit is near perfect I did not have to use any filler whatsoever. The kit comes with a vast array of weapons and an impressive decal sheet. All in all this is one of the best kits I've built.

1/32 Venom NF.3

The Venom is finished!!!!!!! This was my first 1/32 kit and I think it has not turned out to bad. The only thing I added to the model were the Aeroclub ejection seats which have incredible amount of detail. This kit is crying out for some super detailing although it is not to shabby out of the box.

B-17F Memphis Belle finished!!

Just a few images of the completed model. This is a big model once it is built and painted it really does look the part. I lost motivation for this model just after I had finished painting it and it was left on my shelf for quite some time. After sitting staring at every time I did some modelling, I finally decide it was time to crack on with it. A couple of minutes into finishing it I was wondering why I had put it aside in the first place! It just goes to show that sometimes if it isn't going to well or your just not enjoying your model just relax put the model aside and do something different.

This was a kit I have been after ever since I first saw the pre-order poster in my local model shop. Although I desperately wanted it, I could not bring myself to part with the best part of £30. So I waited and waited and bam! Ebay strikes again!

As per usual, construction started with the cockpit which is not to bad as standard but I decided to add some Pavla Martin Baker MK 8's which are not bad for the price tag (£5 inc p&p).

Next I turned my attention to the wheel bays which are nicely detailed. As the plastic is white, I decided not to paint them and just to give them a series of washes.

The kit itself builds up very quickly although there are a few fit issues which a bit of filler can sort out - it was very hassle free.

Once the filler has dried, it will be onto the final finish stage which shouldn't take to long as its all white!

Revell 1/48 B-17F Memphis Belle

As soon as I saw this on the shelf in the hobby shop I had to have it! As soon as I got home the box was open and the model was under way.

The first thing to be done was to rescribe the entire model. Next my attention turned to the interior. The interior on this kit isn't to great but I decided most of it wouldn't be seen so I was not to fussed.

A little bit of pre-shading!

This kit is incredibly big although not to complicated( no where near as big as my B-1B).

Here's a few photo's of my 1/32 Venom in progress. This is the Revell re-release of the old Matchbox kit. Considering it is nearly 30 years old the fit has been good so far and the detail is pretty good to. I've decided to make an RAF Venom.

F-15E

This is my Revell 1/48 F-15E and was the first model I painted with my airbrush. I was very pleased with the results I couldn't quite beleive the difference in the finish! As for the kit itself it has to be the best F-15E in 1/48 scale. The fit was excellent the detail was high and the decals went on with ease.

Douglas Bader's Spitfire

I have to say I don't think anyone can beat Revell-Monogram for value for money. Take this Spitfrie for example I managed to get the kit for $9 (£7 at the time) the detail is not too bad and it looks like the real deal. So with a little bit of extra work you can end up with a very nice model. All I have done to this one is added some wire to the cockpit and rescribed the panel lines. All in all, I think it has turned out well.

B-57G Canberra

Hi! This is my Airfix 1/48 B-57G Canberra that I have just finished. I have to say this is one of the most enjoyable kits I have built so far. The build itself was simple and the kit builds up very quickly and goes together well. Overall, the detail is really good but I didn't think the standard ejection seats that came with the kit were particularly good so I purchased a pair of Legend resin seats which have nice crisp detail and a reasonable price tag. The only problem I found with the seats was that I couldn't find (anywhere!) what seats were put in the upgrade G's so I'm pretty sure that the seats are wrong! The camouflage was all painted free hand and I think that this has given it a nice soft demarkation.

Herse my 1/48 P-47N made from the Revell limited edition(reboxed Academy) kit.

This was a very nice kit fit was excellent, detial was great and the decals were fantastic. This was one of the first natural metal finishes i tried and as i recall it did not go well at first. As it was the first metal finish model i had attempted i decide not to anything fancy. But after painting it with a metal/silver colour disaster, The paint statrted peeling off! So I stripped it back and started again all went well this time.

Jaguar GR.3

Here one I finished not to long ago, my 1/48 Jaguar Gr.3 built from the Airfix kit.

Not the best fitting kit in the world but has built up into what I think is a nice model. I had real problems with the wing to fusealage joint but this was overcome with lots of filler and sanding. Appart from that it was a fairly straight forward build.

F-104G Starfighter

This is my F-104G Starfighter of Jabo 33 in its special retirement scheme. This was made from an old Monogram kit I got cheap of ebay.

I really enjoyed this model, so much so I have got another one! I had a few problems with it mainly with the old decals; on the next one I shall use some microsol liquid decal film.

This was one of the kits that got me back into modelling having not done it for a good few years and have learnt a lot since then so hopefully when I have built the other one of these I have you will be able to see the difference.

Hi everybody and anybody.

Welcome to my blog, this is my first time doing anything like this so not entirely sure what this will end up like so please be patient. Well this has all been brought about by my better half she has her own blog and she convinced me to start my own and I thought why not.

Well I do a lot of model building (every night) I mostly like to make 1/48 aircraft but have been known to try something different. I want to use this blog to pass on any knowledge I have accquired and techniques I have used and which ones work for me. I also want to use this blog to showcase my models and get some feedback on them.
